There are two primary forms of therapy offered at Red Tree Practice – psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. These therapies may be combined with medication-based treatment, depending on the assessment from the medical specialist.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy seeks to relieve symptoms through the development of insight, or the slowly developing awareness of feelings and thoughts that were once outside of the person’s awareness. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a longer term treatment compared to CBT. It is helpful for a range of problems including depression, anxiety, sexual and emotional intimacy difficulties, physical symptoms without physical basis, and personality disorders amongst other problems.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that helps people to change unhelpful or unhealthy thinking habits, feelings and behaviours. CBT may be used to treat problems including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, uncontrollable anger, substance abuse, eating disorders and other problems.
The team will work with you to determine the most appropriate form of therapy for you.
Management Plan Assessments: Your GP may refer you for a management plan with one of our doctors. This entails a one-off assessment, which can be over 1 - 2 sessions. Once the assessment has taken place, our clinicians will develop and provide a comprehensive management plan to be forwarded to your GP for ongoing management suggestions.
